Treasures of the Steamboat Arabia Museum
If you are ever in Kansas City; I highly recommend that you visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum located at 400 Grand Blvd., Kansas City,
MO 64106. I visited the museum in August of 2008 and it was unlike any other museum that you will visit. Housed in the
museum is the largest and complete collection of trade goods and frontier artifacts in the world. The cargo of the Arabia has
been preserved in it's original condition and displayed in very accessable and atractive displays.
But the most incredible
part of this adventure was that the discoverer's were at the museum to great visitors, take questions and to sign autographs.
This made it a wonderful experience, unlike that of other museums. I had a chance to speak with Greg Hawley and to briefly speak
to his mother. Greg Hawley was one of the major discoverer's of the Steamboat Arabia and its recovery.
You must visit this
attaction as one of the top stops on your trip to Kansas City. Plan on at least 2-3 hours to enjoy your visit. There is
a shop and snack shop in the museum and many shopping stores nearby. Plan a half day if you can to shop in the area.
Purchase
Greg's book "Treasure in A Cornfield". The adventure of the discovery, excavation, and preservation of the Steamship is carefully
documented in this book.
